Garoua, June 8, 2026 – The University of Garoua came alive with Boissons du Cameroun’s ecological commitment through the planting of 1,000 trees, as part of a large-scale reforestation campaign aimed at combating desertification and the effects of climate change in the Northern region.
Driven by remarkable mobilization from students, faculty members, and institutional partners, this initiative is part of Boissons du Cameroun’s national momentum to preserve the environment and promote sustainable development. In a region particularly exposed to climate challenges, reforestation now stands as a concrete and structural response to the gradual degradation of ecosystems.
On the university campus, each sapling planted symbolizes far more than an ecological gesture: it reflects the commitment of a generation aware of environmental issues. Through this operation, the University of Garoua reaffirms its role as a center for civic education, where knowledge goes hand in hand with action.
This initiative is part of the continuity of actions already implemented across the country. The Garoua phase, dubbed “One Student, One Tree,” aims to sustainably embed eco-friendly habits among young people.
A strong action against desertification
The Northern region of Cameroon is facing increasingly harsh climatic conditions marked by rising temperatures. In this context, reforestation campaigns are essential to:
- Restore degraded soils
- Improve air quality
- Promote biodiversity
- Strengthen the resilience of local communities
A windbreak to protect university infrastructure
Beyond the numbers, these 1,000 trees represent a tangible investment for future generations. Tomorrow, they will provide lasting benefits: shade for students, protection of infrastructure against destructive strong winds, improved living conditions, carbon storage, and a meaningful contribution to the fight against climate change.
This reforestation campaign by Boissons du Cameroun at the University of Garoua thus reflects a strong conviction: every tree planted contributes to well-being and supports the sustainable development of Cameroon.
